Creating & Setting Up Projects

How to Create a New Project

Last updated September 18, 2026  ·  2 min read

Every piece of work in PMS lives inside a project. Setting one up correctly at the start makes it much easier to organize tasks, files, and your team later.

To create a new project:

  1. From the sidebar, go to Projects, then click New Project.
  2. Enter a project Name (required; this is the name shown everywhere the project appears) and, optionally, a description (the fuller context of what this project covers).
  3. Fill in any details you have: client name (who this work is for, useful once you’re juggling several clients), category (helps with filtering later), budget, and priority (defaults to Medium if left blank).
  4. Assign the project to a team (everyone on that team gets access), or add individual people directly. If you pick a team and don’t add anyone manually, the team’s leader is assigned automatically.
  5. Add start/end dates or a project deadline (these set the outer bounds; no task inside the project can have a due date later than the project’s own deadline), and any milestones you already know about, all optional at this stage.
  6. Click Create. Anyone you assigned is notified automatically, and the project appears in their Projects list.

Good to know:

  • A project’s status defaults to “In Progress” when created; there’s no separate “draft” project state.
  • You don’t need every field filled in to get started; the title is the only truly required piece; everything else can be added or edited later.
