Abandoning a Task: Requesting & Deciding

Last updated September 14, 2026  ·  1 min read

Sometimes a task simply shouldn’t be finished. Assignees can’t cancel a task outright they request abandonment, and the task’s creator (or a Super Admin) decides whether it goes through.

Requesting Abandonment

To request abandonment:

  1. Open the task you want to abandon.
  2. Click Request Abandonment.
  3. Add a reason, if you have one (optional).
  4. Submit the request; the task’s status changes to Abandon Requested, and the task’s creator is notified.

Approving or Declining the Request

To respond to an abandon request:

  1. Open the task showing an Abandon Requested status.
  2. Review the assignee’s reason, if one was given.
  3. Choose Approve to abandon the task, or Decline to keep it active.
  4. Confirm the assignee is notified either way.

Good to know:

  • An assignee can only request abandonment; they can’t abandon a task directly. A task’s creator or a Super Admin can abandon a task directly, skipping the request step entirely, but that option isn’t available to assignees.
  • If approved, the task’s status becomes Abandoned; the record stays, just marked as such. If declined, the task returns to whatever status it was in before the request.
