Creating & Assigning Tasks
Assigning Tasks & Setting Priority or Due Dates
Two quick edits you’ll make on a task repeatedly: who’s responsible for it, and how urgent it is.
Assigning or Reassigning a Task
Unlike some tools that only allow one assignee, tasks in PMS can be assigned to several people at once, useful for shared work rather than splitting it into separate identical tasks.
To assign or reassign a task:
- Open the task and click Edit.
- Update the Assignees field; add or remove people as needed.
- Save your changes. Newly added assignees are notified; removed assignees stop seeing it in their task list.
Setting Priority and Due Dates
Priority and due dates are how PMS and your teammates gauge urgency at a glance.
To set priority and dates:
- Open the task and click Edit.
- Set the Priority field; this is required on every task.
- Set a Start Date and/or Due Date as needed.
- Save your changes.
Good to know:
- Each assignee acknowledges and works the task independently; one person’s status update doesn’t automatically apply to the others. If you only want one specific person to formally own the task’s approval flow, consider delegating it instead of adding multiple assignees.
- A task’s due date can’t be set later than its parent project’s end date, and can’t be earlier than the task’s own start date; both are checked together when you save.
