TU Wien Academy Runs First Compact Program on Project Management Trends

TU Wien Academy has held the first edition of its new compact program, “Current and Emerging Trends in Project Management.” Participants spent three days on hybrid working methods, AI and sustainability.

The first sessions dealt with hybrid project management. Katharina Radlinger-Köhler, who works as both project manager and Scrum Master at the Austrian Federal Computing Center (BRZ), showed how a Work Breakdown Structure can be adapted when some project parts are planned upfront and others follow an agile method such as Scrum.

The AI sessions separated two situations: using AI as a tool inside a project, and running a project that brings AI into an organisation. Barbara Keck, Principal Technical Consultant for AI at BRZ, and Johannes Buchberger of Microsoft Austria presented both views. Participants used AI to draft a project charter and run a stakeholder analysis. Trustworthy AI use and change management were part of the exercises.

On the last day, the group looked at how individual projects connect to company sustainability goals. Using the IPMA WISE model, participants rated their own project’s contribution and checked it against their organisation’s sustainability strategy and materiality matrix.

Dr Dagmar Silvius-Zuchi leads the program. She has worked on international ISO standards for project management and has more than 20 years of experience in project work, consulting and corporate change. Dr Gilbert Silvius, Professor of Project and Program Management with a focus on sustainability, teaches alongside her.

The program returns in 2027 with two runs in Vienna:

  • 11 to 13 February 2027 (German)
  • 12 to 14 February 2027 (English)

Previous project experience is required to join.
