Changing a Team Member’s Role & the Founding Admin Protection

Last updated September 15, 2026  ·  2 min read

Roles aren’t fixed as people take on new responsibilities, their role can be updated to match. One account, though, is protected from ever losing its role: the founding Admin.

Changing Someone’s Role

To change someone’s role:

  1. Go to Manage Team and open the member’s profile.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Change the Role field to the new role.
  4. Save
  • Only Admins can assign the Admin or Manager role. Managers can set Team Lead, Member, or Guest-level access, but not promote someone to Admin or Manager.
  • Changing someone to Team Lead makes them eligible to be set as a specific team’s leader it doesn’t automatically make them the leader of any team on its own.

The Founding Admin Protection

Every organization has exactly one founding Admin: the account that originally registered it, and that account carries special protection that no one else has.

  • The founding Admin can never be resigned by anyone, including other Admins.
  • The founding Admin can never be permanently deleted by anyone.
  • This protection is tied to the specific account, not to the Admin role in general; other Admins don’t share it.

Good to know:

  • The founding Admin protection exists to prevent an organization from accidentally locking itself out of Admin-level access entirely.
  • If your organization genuinely needs to change who its founding Admin is, that isn’t a self-service action it isn’t exposed anywhere in the standard user management screens.
